Free bus travel for seniors and veterans

The City of Gold Coast provides a free bus travel service for seniors and veterans. Eligible Gold Coast seniors and veterans are able to travel for free on Gold Coast Surfside buses between 8.30am and 3.30pm Monday to Friday (public holidays included).

The free bus travel for seniors and veterans is part of the City's drive to encourage more Gold Coasters to use public transport and to make better use of existing services. The free bus travel for seniors and veterans aims to help seniors and veterans better connect with their communities.

Free bus travel is part of the Gold Coast City Transport Strategy 2031 and is funded by the City. It is being delivered in partnership with the Queensland Government's Department of Transport and Main Roads, TransLink division and Surfside Buslines.

Note: Free bus travel does not apply to Queensland Rail trains or on G:Link light rail services.

To be eligible for free bus travel must:

The following documentation must be submitted with your application for free bus travel:

  • a copy of your proof of residency on the Gold Coast (e.g. rates notices, utilities bill, car registration)
  • a copy of your TransLink Seniors go card or Seniors +go card (both sides).

Once documentation is prepared you can complete and submit an online application for free bus travel or download a form if you would prefer to complete your application offline:

If you complete a hard copy you can submit your application and supporting documentation by email to freebustravel@goldcoast.qld.gov.au, in person at one of the City's customer service centres, or by post to:

Once your application is approved you'll receive a sticker to attach to your TransLink Seniors red go card or Seniors +go card. Please allow 10 business days for processing.

Veterans

To be eligible for free bus travel passengers who are veterans must:

  • hold a TransLink go card
  • hold a Department of Veteran's Affairs (DVA) gold or white card
  • be a Gold Coast resident
  • apply for a sticker pass.

The following documentation must be submitted with your application for free bus travel:
